Busy couple of weeks
The U9 S.Elliott Masonry Ltd girls fastball team have had a couple of busy weeks.
At home against Blyth, the Hornets gave up 3 runs in the final inning to a loose a close game 3 - 0. Brooklyn and Shaylyn Smith both got doubles but couldn't be brought in for runs. Last Thursday, Mitchell hosted Seaforth Yellow and lost 4 - 0. The Hornets got seven hits over four innings but couldn't get a timely hit to cash in a run. Esme Bakewell and Amellia Valiance each had two hits, while Abilene Gordner got one hit.
The next night was the Goderich tournament and while Mitchell got four runs they lost to Ilderton 9 -4. Brooklyn, Amellia, Maria Marshall and Madison Ahrens all scored runs. Defensively Esme and Amellia combined to throw a runner out at the plate. Early Saturday morning Goderich beat the girls 8 - 3. Willa Schoonderwoerd had two hits and scored a run. Emma Elliott had a double for the big hit of the game. The girls have been showing steady improvement all year long in all aspects of the game but it didn't show in the second game of the day. A combined Seaforth team won 15 - 2. Willa and Olivia Eidt scored the only runs. Madison and Amellia took a turn pitching and did well to give the regular pitchers a break. But after some team bonding at the beach the girls came back for the third game of the day and fifth game in three days. A weary team battled hard and down 10 - 5 to Lucan in the final at bat the Hornets put up the maximum 5 runs to come away with a tie. Madison, Emma, Olivia, Lilah Payne-McCleary and Brooklyn all scored in the exciting final inning.
